Lazuli Bunting
Passerina amoena
The colorful Lazuli Bunting can be found along dry hillsides or in streamside thickets on the eastern slope of the Cascades. Lazuli Buntings pick seeds and invertebrates from foliage on the ground, or catch aerial prey. When you find one, listen closely to its song: many males learn their songs by listening to nearby males, resulting in "song neighborhoods."

Seattle - Union Bay Natural Area (Montlake Fill)
Puget Trough
The Union Bay Natural Area, or "Montlake Fill," is one of the premier birding sites in Seattle. The "fill" is a former landfill located on the banks of Lake Washington adjacent to Husky Stadium. The microhabitats of the site attract a large variety of birds year-round, and you may be able to find American Bitterns, Common Yellowthroats, Peregrine Falcons, Green Herons, Marsh Wrens, and Rufous and Anna's Hummingbirds.
